Custom Design of Programs
In close consultation with clients, GED determines the specifications and objectives that need to be addressed to create a new study abroad program. Typically, clients specify the program theme, the desired duration of the program, the size of the participating group and their educational, budgetary and other objectives for the program. Once GED has obtained this information, we develop the educational content of courses and select study sites that best meet the client’s educational objectives within the stated budgetary framework. Before further preparations are made, we submit course outlines and itinerary plans for review and approval by the client.
Planning and Organisation of Programs
Once a client is satisfied with the design of their program, GED then plans and organises the academic, administrative and logistic support needed to successfully deliver the program. For all programs, this includes:
- Preparation of a detailed day-by-day schedule of educational and recreational activities;
- Recruitment and hire of all teaching staff from local universities, government departments, private industry etc. as appropriate;
- Arrangement of accommodation for the duration of the program, including homestays if requested;
- Transport arrangements (excluding international flights);
- Provision of all meals throughout the program, taking account of participants’ special dietary needs;
- Organisation of all teaching venues, including field research stations as required;
- Supply of field study equipment and camping gear to facilitate field camps in remote locations;
- Planning and arrangement of communications, medical and emergency services in remote locations;
- Arrangement of permits required for any special activities planned as part of the program; and
- On-going liaison with the client institution and support for clients’ program leaders.
Day-to-Day Management
Once a program begins, GED handles all aspects of the day-to-day management of the program. One of our Program Managers accompanies each group, handling every detail of the program on a daily basis and ensuring that the program runs smoothly and efficiently. This leaves the client’s accompanying program leader free to deal with any ‘internal’ administrative matters that may arise on behalf of the client and to focus on any teaching duties they may have.
Quality Control
GED undertakes a review and evaluation of all programs on behalf of our client institutions. This process involves obtaining critical reviews from participants, the client’s program leaders and GED’s program managers.
At the end of a program, a detailed review is conducted jointly by GED staff and the client’s faculty program leader. Improvements that are indicated in this review and the participants’ evaluations are then taken into consideration for the planning of future programs.
